Once there
was a boy who was very poor. At least, that’s what he dressed like. His name was John. Most people stayed away
from him because they would be teased if they hung out with him. So he was very
lonely and sad. He didn't have any good friends.
I mostly
stayed with my group of friends and no one else. Once I was walking home with
my friends and I saw him walking home by himself. He looked very sad. My friends didn't bully people like him, but they
did stay away from them. I wished I could get to know that boy.
One day when
I was in town getting groceries, I saw him. He was in the Super Market. He
bought a huge TV and a bunch of snacks. I was shocked, because up to now, I
thought he was really poor! After he checked out, I followed him home to see
where he lived. I was surprised again! He lived in a huge house, much bigger
than I lived in!
The next day
was Saturday, so we didn't have any school. I went back to the boy’s house and
rang the doorbell. A maid came to the door and asked me who I was. I told her I
was one of John’s friends from school. She let me in and told me to wait in the
parlor. The parlor was a very high ceiling room. I sat down on one of the enormous
couches there were to choose from.
After a few
minutes, John came into the room. He stared at me for about ten seconds, and
then said, “Why are you here?” I told him that I would like to be his friend.
He asked me why I hadn't come already. I told him that I had always wanted to
be his friend, but that I was always too busy with my other friends until now. He smiled and said, let’s play a game. So we
went downstairs and played video games for an hour, until I had to go home. So
I said good bye and walked home.
So from then
on, we were best friends and hung out all the time, and people began to see
that he was a cool guy, especially after they figured out that he wasn't poor.
So I will never again judge someone by what they wear, or look like, or how
much money it appears that they have. Because now I know, you should never
judge a book by it’s cover.
